The Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas was founded in 1996. The mission of the Chorus is to give children of the Dallas Metroplex the experience of musical artistry and excellence through choral singing in a group that reflects the diversity of the metropolitan area.

The Chorus at the MeyersonThe Chorus includes four children’s choruses of fourth through eighth grade girls and boys with unchanged voices and the Youth Chorus of high school aged students. Qualifications are a good voice, a good sense of pitch, and a commitment to regular attendance at rehearsals and performances.

Auditions for all choirs are held in the spring at First United Methodist Church. All choirs rehearse on Monday evenings during the school year at Cathedral Guadalupe, First United Methodist Church and First Prebyterian Church in downtown Dallas.

The Chorus performs extensively throughout the Dallas area. It has been the frequent guest of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, serving as the children’s chorus in: Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 8; Te Deum by Hector Berlioz; Leonard Bernstein’s Mass; and, most recently, Howard Shore’s Lord of the Rings Symphony. The Chorus made their Carnegie Hall debut in the spring of 2005 with the DSO in a performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana under the baton of Andrew Litton.

In the spring of 2002, the Concert I chorus accepted an invitation to perform for the Southwestern Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association in Houston, Texas and the Concert II chorus performed for the National Convention of the Organization of American Kodály Educators in San Antonio, Texas. In the summer of 2004, the Chorus took its first national tour to the Niagara International Music Festival.

To build and strengthen its tradition of vocal excellence, superb musical direction, and artistic innovation, the Chorus must have a strong fiscal and administrative base. As a non-profit organization, the Chorus relies on the proceeds of tuition, ticket sales and concert fees, which fund nearly two thirds of its operations. The remainder of its operating budget is provided through the generosity of the general public – through gifts, grants and donations.

We welcome your participation in this important arts endeavor that provides lasting value to our community and our youth.
